I know this is like the 4th thread I've started trying to re-home puppies, but for as long as I've known her, my girlfriend has a knack for finding strays, that's why I keep ending up with dogs. I'm working in Guymon, and she came up over the weekend to visit me. We were around Optima NWR and found them alongside the road eating a dead bird. Anyone that knows the area knows there's few people, very little food, and even less fresh water. They're very emaciated, covered in cuts and bugs. I'm surprised they're still alive considering how hot its been up here. They look pit bull-ish to me, the male has some sandy coloring along his sides, similar to a German shepherd. We washed them, and gave them food and water and they seem to be doing a lot better. They're probably gonna need some effort to get back to good health. No re-homing fee, just take care of them. They go as a pair, they've probably been through a lot together in the last few days and we're not separating them. Whoever wants them can pick them up in Yukon.

Lab feet for sure, see if they're webbed. Kudo's to you for the save on two abandoned pups. Optima area is pretty much fit for only grasshoppers this time of the year.

God Bless you sir! I'd help, but I'm full up with my "rescues" who are here to stay now. Great looking dogs. I agree on some Lab in there.

I think that couch belongs to them now. It would be a shame to break them up. Hopefully both will go to the same home. I wonder if there are any more of their litter still out there?

I hadn't really thought of that. These two were together, so I would assume if any of their siblings were still around, they would've all been there with them.

Kyle, first of all, don't describe them as "pit-bullish" looking. They are a lot of things but pit bull is not one of them. They are, if anything at all, "Labradorish" looking ... Which means more than likely they will make great family dogs.

Two, have you looked into letting your sweetie get her "not-for-profit" and setting up a small rescue. If she is as good at finding these guys as you say she is, I'm guessing she'd be just as good at soliciting donations of money, food, supplies, etc. From what I've seen over the years, as long as the folks running the shelter understand the basics of the "game" and don't think for one minute that it is not a "game", they can do quite well. By "quite well" is draw a nominal salary (but more than minimum wage), and that their shelter CANNOT be too strict on placing animals. When folks coming to adopt start feeling like they have to give away their own children to qualify (and you'd be flabbergasted at how many shelters are run like this) people will stop trying to adopt from you and you will be overrun.

The third (and most important "leg") in the game is the temptation to be a "no kill" shelter in the truest sense of the phrase. Some animals, no matter how big your heart is, just should not be saved. It's a hard place to come to but I am telling you that not understanding the difference in what is best for the animal and what helps you sleep better at night is the road to damnation.

Good luck to you sir!! Your gal is a sweetheart! (And she must be rubbing off on you!! LOL)
