OK, I tried them? water to boil add oats, simmer for 30 minutes.

IDK, are they supposed to have the texture of rubber bird shot. A little tougher than tapioca or rice?

Or were they not cooked long enough.

If they are tough or chewy and you don't like them that way just cook them a little longer. I usually stick mine in the microwave with butter and some kind of dried fruit ... whatever is handy -- raisins, cranberries, apples, cherries ... whatever ... a little milk and honey sometimes if the fruit doesn't sweeten it up enough and I am good to go.

I like rolled oats too ...

Microwave is the fastest way to cook them. If you cook them on the stove treat it like rice ... boil the water, then turn it down and let it simmer for 30 minutes or so ... you don't have to keep stirring.

Oats aren't bad, but I prefer grits to them. Or Cream of Wheat / Malt-O Meal.

I may give these a try though. I am not a fruit guy, so will they work with my typical hot cereal additives: real maple syrup and a pat of real butter?

Grits are okay. Malt-o-Meal too but I can't seem to stomach Cream of Wheat ... bleechy tasting no matter what I put in it ... :drooling:

Maple syrup and butter are good too ... I am trying to think of anything I have added to mine that didn't taste alright but am coming up blank. I like hot breakfast cereals a lot though. In the winter sometimes I will eat a bowl of oatmeal for all three meals ... Throw in a side of bacon and a glass of cold milk and you have the perfect meal IMHO ... :P
