This may be a stupid question on my part, but what does the "AR" stand for in AR-15?

It stands for ArmaLite, as in the ArmaLite division of Fairchild Aircraft, where the rifle was designed.

You can also use "Homeland Defense Rifle." I kind of like that one. I've also heard "Modern Musket" thrown around too.

Thanks. A lot of anti's at work were saying it stood for Assault Rifle. I wasn't sure, so thanks for clarifying.
