I use scrubbers in all my vacuum sealed stuff. work great, leave no odd taste. Mylar is great as it's non-permeable. As long as you don't lose the seal that is mechanically created by melting the opening, it should stay sealed forever.

if you use those mylar bags i had heard about putting oxygen obsorbers in there. Anyone do that?

Got me thinking of putting rice and some beans in the same bag with some seasonings and viola. SHTF MRE

unless you are going to pre-cook the rice and beans and then dehydrating them you might have a problem since the rice has a much shorter cook time... you could make separate packets of each though and then put them in the same bags. I always use O2 absorbers in my Mylar bags they work great.
