EIC (Earned Income Credit) has been around for a long time, if I remember right. Also, when submitting one's W-4 form and you have kids that are claimed, you'll pay more at the end of the year. For a long time, I've always claimed only myself on my taxes and always got money back. Now that I'm drawing my Social Security, we are having to pay a lot more because they failed to tell me that there was an option for withholding on the SS payments. I'm taking in a document this Friday to have something withheld so we don't get hit again with a $4000+ bill again. It sucks when one draws SS and still work full time because it apparently puts us into a higher tax bracket.
