The point is, Obama during one of the debates less than 2 months ago, called for the reinstatement of the assault weapons ban. After seeing some of the ridiculous stuff he has been able to get passed in the last 4 years, nothing would surprise me

Even ignoring the actual political calculus of that statement, he doesn't have the votes in either of the other two branches of government.

He doesn't have to have the votes in Congress. An AWB could easily be enacted by a Presidential Executive Order. He could declare it a matter of national security and public safety. It could be that easy. And since he's a lame duck president he doesn't have anything to lose by using an Executive Order to accomplish this.

There is no doubt in my mind that there are many Democratic lawmakers who would love to see varying degrees of gun control: assault weapons ban; hi-cap mag ban; ammunition restrictions; etc. Just as there is no doubt in my mind that there are Republican lawmakers who feel the same way. Also, there are many Democrats that oppose gun control.

It's easy for us in "fly-over" land to look at Fienstein, Frank, Schumer and their ilk and think they are representative of ALL Democrats. They are not.
