I am a holster snob; I admit it. I like my nice, name brand rigs by makers like Milt Sparks and TT Gunleather. I like my UBG Holsters too. They are all beautiful and very functional works of leather. They are also expensive, and you usually have to wait after ordering them before you get your grubby little hands on them. And even though they are concealed and will be rarely seen by anyone but me, I still like them and will continue to wear them. I have sometimes bought an "el cheapo" holster to "get me by" while waiting on a holster that I have ordered for a particular handgun.
But some time back, I discovered the wonders and versatility of the Belly Band. The Belly Band, especially when coupled with a "holster" like a Sticky Holster or a Remora, just plain works. You can use the combo of the two pieces of gear to carry your gun IWB at what ever position, ride height, and whatever degree of cant that you want. You can use it with about any handgun from a tiny little NAA Mini .22 to the humongous Glock 21. Nothing, absolutely no other holster, will carry a pistol tighter and closer to your side than a Belly Band. Nothing will actually serve to conceal your pistol quite so well as a Belly Band. They are actually quite comfortable; unless you cinch the thing down like you would a saddle bronc. (Not that I have any intention of saddling up no stinkin' bronco anyway). So why do more of us not choose to carry this way? I don't know the answer to this. I do know that I am eagerly awaiting the delivery of my new TT Gunleather IWB Slim XC in brown for my Glock 29, as I got an email yesterday from Tim Thurner that it's on it's way! But I want to carry my Glock 29 today. So, I will wear my belly band, and will stick the Glock 29 in a Sticky Holster that I already have in my box-o-holsters and then IWB the BB, and go about my bidness as usual. It's not as secure as a stiff, custom made leather rig, but I am not going out on patrol today, I am going to Walmart to buy some oatmeal and stuff per the wife's instructions and then on the range to shoot a bit. I do not see me having to run, jump, climb, crawl, slither on my belly, or hide in dense brush, so I think the BB/Sticky holster combo will be just fine. If you don't have a Belly Band, ya oughta getcha one. You can find them cheap all over places like eBay. Mine is a Vedder Brand, it has 4 pockets; two on each side, and I can carry a small gun like a J-Frame easily in one; or spare mags, or a light...you get the idea. I think I may have paid like $20 bucks for it. It's cheap, versatile, and it works pretty good.
