Why did no one think to ask the veterinarian about the sick pig?

I like how Carl named the pig, but then freaked out when those girls named the zombies. His reason for not naming zombies was that they cant talk and are not humans, but pigs cant talk and arnt human either.....stupid Carl (I hate Carl)
I'd probably have more people killing zombies at the fence. One thing I don't understand is as many dead soldiers as they come across, why don't they have better weapons?

Where are they getting fuel? Its several years in to the apocalypse, fuel stations wouldn't pump. Most cars these days are hard if not impossible to siphon and they aren't driving corollas and civics.
I was thinking the same thing, then I remembered the pile of dead zombies in WWZ and how they used them to crawl over the wall. No win situation.
And the fuel, if they found any, would be bad by now.
