The thing was Glenn was killed in the comic books, so this is one aspect that they got right. For me it was when they killed off Carl and Rick was taken by some secretive government agency. Then it just got too stupid for me.

The whole Negan part though, I thought that was the most realistic segment of the whole series. I could actually see people taking it to that level because as a species we have already taken it to that level and more so. In comparison to some people from our past, Negan was actually quite reasonable. Never really understood his love of Lucille, but hey whatever floated his boat.
I found Negan to be entertaining, prior to Season 9.

Actually there were several series that were excellent that never got the acclaim of the walking dead that you may want to check out: "Jericho" and "Colony"

Watched them recently. Jericho was somewhat patriotic and I was surprised it was ever allowed to be aired. Colony actually vaguely reminded me of what is happening today, just replace aliens with corporations and the ccp virus...

Love Jericho. Wife and I watched the series again a few months ago.

WHY do we find stuff like this entertaining? I'm just as guilty as anyone, I was an avid fan for a long time, but still don't understand why? I suspect this is my way to experience the adrinilin rush of being in dangerous situations, while being completely safe? I think we all know this CIVILIZATION is fragile, and it wouldn't take very much for us to find ourselves in a uncivilized situation!

Part of it is a feeling of superiority that results from, "I knew he shouldn't do that or I could have done much better."

Are they still walking? Or, still dead? Or still both? Maybe neither? It is, however, what happens when some network exec decides to cross a video game with a soap opera.

Why do we watch?

There is an innate drive in humans to explore new worlds, unfortunately there are no new worlds to explore and there hasn't been for a long time.

We have been to the summit of the tallest mountains and to the deepest places in the ocean. The earth has been photographed and mapped and all but a few places have been explored. We have Hubble photographs of places that are millions of light years away.

Even knowing all of this the desire to explore still exists and likely always will.

So how do we fufill that desire, we make it up with books, TV and movies.

None of this new, I have Sir Arthur Conan Doyles "The Lost World" on my desk, it was first published in 1912.

For years the two most popular shows on TV were Game of Thrones and TWD

Look at the top 5 highest grossing movies, 4 of the 5 are sci fi

The desire still burns but in our safe highly regulated world watching is really all we can do.

ricco, here is a post I made on the old IMDb forum in response to the question 'why do you write?'

As for why I write, I like to tell stories and my speech is a bit hard to understand sometimes, and I'm not used to talking for long long periods so I write. Right now, I have one novel published on kindle, (The Pale Horse), and one other has the rough draft done and is being proofread and various other corrections are being made, and I am starting a third novel. I am jotting down ideas for other novels as I think of them.

Stephen King, in his novel, Salem's Lot, quoted another author who said that 'a novel is a confession to everything by a man who has done nothing'. Very apt in my case. When I read a good novel but especially when I write one, I am actually living the adventures that I never had, but sometimes wish that I did. What this is saying is that a novel serves as wish-fulfilment on the parts of both the writer and the reader. There is much truth to this. In my dull, humdrum life, it is a chance to escape, in my imagination if nowhere else, the sometimes excruciating sameness of my existence.

The board was from the 1994 ABC miniseries The Stand, now on moviechat.org
