I took a couple of rifles and a shotgun to school at different times to refinish then in shop class. Nobody had any problems with what I was doing. Probably had a few .22 LR in my pocket most of the time. That was in the late 60's.
I've had a knife in my pocket since I was 5 years old. Can't imagine what I would do without without a pocket knife or two.

Back in my day, we all carried pocket knives. If the teacher needed to cut something and couldn't find her scissors, she would ask if anybody had a pocket knife she could use. Well, 3 or 4 of us would get up, walk to her desk and produce our pocket knives. Then the teacher would grab the one closest to her, open it, cut what needed cut and then close it (yeah, she actually knew how to open and close it :faint:) and hand it back to the owner.

Nowadays, if you show up at school with a pocket knife, you just as well had shot the governor! :ooh2:

II carried a pocket knife to school everyday from high school through college and never once had a problem with it. That was less than 10 years ago. Hell I even used it in class a few times to cut some stuff because the teacher was a pansy. The only time I ever saw someone get nailed was a dumb ass kid who brought a big medieval dagger to school to show it off. He got expelled shortly thereafter.

I made gun cabinets and a bunch of knives in shop, and a crossbow kit the school supplied. Most knives i made would pass as shanks but a few turned out ok. Had plenty of fights and a bunch of paddleings.

Getting expelled was unheard of, as was getting kicked off the bus. I never heard of in school suspensions (wut a joke) until my kids were in high school.

Times have changed for sure.

Wow! Scenario #1 is right on. 1967/68 school year in smalltown SE Oklahoma high school - I took my semi-auto .22 rifle to science class to show my teacher/baseball coach. He had brought a .38 revolver he wanted to trade me - had it in his desk drawer. Nobody gave the situation a second look or thought.

I kept my rifle and traded it in a pawn shop in Ft. Smith that spring for a Winchester model 67 single-shot .22 and enough cash to buy a suit for graduation.
