I'm thinking about getting a revolver and have absolutely 0 experience with them. I would want something that I could possibly build on to shoot competition with and would like it to be a S&W.

Which models do you recommend?

I don't know the new S&W revolvers,,,
But I can recommend a few used ones for you.

Model 15 Combat Masterpiece,,,
4" barrel, K-frame, 6-shot, combat sights,,,
Possibly the finest .38 special revolver ever made.

Model 14 Masterpiece,,,
6" barrel, K-frame, 6-shot, target sights.

Depending on what you want to do,,,
These could fit your needs.

I believe the model 15 is what I was advised to purchase. It looks like one well built, great handling revo! I will have to do some research on it now. Thanks!

I saw Josh's 686 for sale. That thing is super sweet and I've considered it. But my question is this... If the gun is a .357/.38spl cal, does the accuracy go down for the gun if you're shooting .38spl rather then .357? Especially at longer ranges, say 50yards and out, just if I happen to shoot PPC or something.

357/38 revolvers can be somewhat finiky with this. Some shoot great loading just .38spl in them, and others not so good. If I was going to go after a .38spl, it would be a model 15, 14(www.summitgunbroker.com) has some for a great price, or a model 10/64.

Hard to beat a S&W pre-lock.

Impossible to beat that soap dish.
