My service is so crappy up here it won’t make a difference if they are listening in on me. They’re only gonna hear every 3rd word or so then they will get dropped off of service.

Service in rural areas is going to get even worse by the end of the year. They will be turning down 3G by then, big carriers anyway. That is the final technology still using copper T1s. As much as they used to hype connecting the rural areas, I can't imagine a whole lot of fiber has been installed out there. Hell, they haven't even put fiber in half the suburbs in KC for Google and other carrier's fiber to the home, and KC was the first market for Google fiber. The "urban" areas seem to be the focus on everything anymore. I would imagine doing them satisfied the requirement to get their government subsidies. And they did the high end suburbs for the exposure and to get their money.

I wonder if Elon's satellites will do phone service at some point?

I haven't even read up on that yet. As you can imagine, my employer is radio silent on that technology.

LOL. Just Googling it backs up my statement about one of their target demographics (gov't money): "Elon Musk’s Starlink space internet service could be expanded into a dedicated phone service, as well as a more affordable internet service for low-income customers."

I'm not sure how they will handle all this from space with those little things. If you ever stood next to a power amp for a cell antenna you'd understand how much power it takes to transmit a quality signal a few miles through the air. Maybe repeaters on the ground? IDK, I'm not checked out on what they're doing.

Actually, OEC out of Norman, OK has been installing a LOT of fiber. Back when we moved into the RV park where we live, the park had fiber service and that was late in 2018. Within the last year, one could drive around in the Blanchard/Newcastle area and see lots of coils of fiber on spools. Most all of that has now been installed and one doesn't see much of those coils of fiber any longer.

I’m hoping to get another deer season out of my 3g cellular game cameras, but I have my doubts...:anyone:

That means I'm out as well?
More than likely when mine crap out yours will to, because I figure when ATT does it they’ll kill 3g for that entire part of the state. I’m already thinking about buying a 4g model just to be prepared. That’s what I did before 2g went away.

Edit to add 3g isn’t supposed to “sunset” until sometime in early 2022, so we still might make it through deer season.
