Thanks for your input, but you aren't familiar with me nor what I understand or my involvement with LEO.

Well, a specialized unit would take officers off the street, and they are understaffed as they are. These units are made up of patrol officers who are on call to respond to those incidents, thus them having the gear in their car. Would you care to enlighten us as to your involvement?

Hmm. The OHP manages to have a tac team that's comprised of Troopers who ride around in regular patrol cars on regular patrols, and they're a lot farther apart than any city cops in Oklahoma, so I'm not sure I can buy that.

You are correct, that's the way almost every dept runs. My response was to another post who said beat cops don't need that kind of gear. Yes, a beat cop assigned to a specialized secondary unit would because they don't know when they would be called out. My response meant a dedicated specialty unit would take officers off the street. Thus the second line of my post you quoted. So I was saying the same thing you just did.

Actually, I am all about demilitarizing the police. There are no decent reason why a beat cop needs to run around looking like (and having the equipment) they are busting down doors in the Helmand province. A specialized unit in the force? Sure, but not 80% of the force.
