A Tulsa County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested Wednesday after allegedly stealing a dog from a yard last month.

Justin Kaczynski, 39, was booked into the Tulsa Jail on a count of larceny of a dog and was released within 10 minutes after posting the $2,500 bond. The charge was filed against him earlier in the day, along with a warrant for his arrest.

Prosecutors allege Kaczynski “stealthily” grabbed a German shepherd from the backyard of a home Sept. 25 and carried the dog away without the owner’s permission.

The deputy was placed on paid administrative leave Sept. 28, but it was downgraded to unpaid leave Wednesday as a result of the felony charge, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

Kaczynski, who was hired as a detention officer in 2006 and promoted to deputy in 2012, is the second TCSO employee to be arrested this week.

Ransom Wise Adedeji, a jail detention officer, was charged with misdemeanor assault after allegedly hitting an inmate with a radio. He surrendered Tuesday and also is on unpaid administrative leave.

“It’s important that TCSO maintain the high standards expected of law enforcement”, Sheriff Vic Regalado said in the release. “We will vigorously investigate any betrayal of the public’s trust by one of our employees.”

  • Tulsa resident Deontee Miller said a Tulsa deputy stole his dog.
  • The deputy was in the neighborhood one night working a call
  • Neighbors allegedly saw the theft happen
  • Tulsa County Sheriff's Office placed the deputy on administrative leave
A Tulsa man wants an apology after he says a Tulsa County Deputy stole his dog.

Deontee Miller put his 4-month-old German Shepard, Bison, in his back yard in September.

Down the road, the deputy responded to a call at a neighbor's house.

Other neighbors say they saw several deputies taking photos of Bison before the deputy allegedly put the dog in his patrol vehicle.

FOX23 was told the deputy named the dog "Chase."

Miller came back to find his dog disappeared from the yard. Neighbors helped him piece together the story.

Bison and Miller reunited, and Tulsa County Sheriff's Office placed the deputy on paid administrative leave while they investigate the claims.

If the allegations prove justifiable, the deputy could face larceny of a dog. That crime is a felony charge in Oklahoma.

TITLE 21 § 1287 Use of a Firearm While Committing a Felony
Possession of a firearm or offensive weapon while committing a felony is a separate felony from the underlying offense, and the penalties associated are additional to any sentence for conviction of the initial felony. A person may be charged with possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony even if the gun is unloaded or if it is an imitation weapon designed to look like a real firearm. A person can be charged for simply having possession of the weapon during the crime, even if it was not used or displayed to perpetrate the offense. Conviction of possession of a firearm while committing a felony carries a sentence of 2 to 10 years in prison in addition to the sentence levied for the primary offense.
