The deputy is dead because a dirty maggot decided to live a criminal lifestyle. Shouldn't have had five pounds of pot and guns in his house. Hopefully he goes away for a long time on those charges.

Well yeh, but if they had knocked loudly and announced, "Police!" the guy might not have thought it was other criminals breaking in for his stash. If they just go around kicking in people's doors late at night even with no knock warrants, it scares folks. People don't know it's the Police kicking in their door. I mean, they can keep doing it if they want to, but it's not a real safe thing to do.

Hey Subsonic:

What are YOU going to do when someone bashes your door open at 0530? You've got about 5 seconds or less to decide if it's a home invasion, or the cops.

I'm surprised this d-bag survived the search warrant after murdering the Officer though.

D-bag or not there's an ever so slight difference between the words 'murder' and 'kill'.

I always find it funny when cop friends who, on the surface seem to be ardent libertarians, are more than willing to kill people over a damn plant. It's pathetic.

I think 0311's made the best and most succinct summation of this mess:

When someone kicks in someone's door and enters without identifying themselves, they might get shot. Many LE agencies require college degrees, but common sense may not be in the core curriculum. This victim may have thought it was other drug dealers after his stash.

Sad deal for the cop but I'm perfectly OK with the outcome.

Wander down the hallway, and ask who is at the door? That usually works.

By all means, if they are knocking on the door. That's what I do if someone is knocking on the door at night, I look through the peep hole and if I don't know them, I ask who is at the door. If someone kicked in the door unannounced and shined a flashlight in my eyes, I'd be scared. I don't know how I would react. I might call 911.

all guns were legal .. note they never said five lb of pot ... they said under 5lb of pot plants. his lawyer claimed pot was misdemeanor amounts. a few small pot plants really sounds like a criminal lifestyle :finger: .. wake up ... Pot will be legal all over USA before long.

the deputy is dead because they chose to serve a no-knock warrant in the middle of the night. now it seems for NO good reason deputy died. the man had every right to defend his house with pregnant girlfriend inside.

I keep hearing these LEO's have college degrees. Let's remember that education is not the same as intelligence. I'm not against a no knock warrant, but let's make sure the alleged crime being investigated is worth the risk. If not, reduce the danger to the officers by conducting the investigation during the day and having them announce themselves. Not every door needs to be kicked in. I fully respect the duties of a police officer and acknowledge the extreme risks they take every minute of every day. Better decisions need to be made.

The pessimist in me says that instead of learning to respect citizen's rights, the law enforcement community will seek better entry methods. I see robotic battering rams in the future.

I'd expect that if you issue a no knock warrant you'd enter with a team since this is such a dangerous criminal. If not why not take him down when he leave the house? This doesn't seem to be a valid risk/reward entry to me but that's just my opinion.

Amazing how a state line or two can change a "dirty maggot" into an upstanding citizen and a "No Knock warrant" into a lecture from a judge about go away and don't waste my time jacking with dopers trying to grow a little recreational pot in their own home.

This situation is a perfect example of why the present drug laws are really, really wrong.

Hopefully Oklahoma changes the laws about smoking dope before I get too old. When I am 75 or 80, I want to sit on my porch and smoke dope and enjoy the last few years of my life in peace.

Interesting article claims that a number of Democratic Congressmen sent a letter to Obama asking him to make use of his office to reclassify Marijuana.

Strange thing to do since Congress is the body supposedly in charge of such things.
