Two Tulsa police officers arrested for murder, accessory

Detectives say the officers, a married couple, shot and killed a 19-year-old

TULSA —

Tulsa police have arrested two of their own for murder and accessory after the fact in the death of a 19-year-old Tulsa man.

According to an arrest report obtained by KRMG the incident happened in the 200 block of N. Maybelle Ave., just northwest of downtown Tulsa, about 10:16 p.m. Tuesday.

The victim, Jeremy Lake, was walking with his girlfriend when a black, 2007 Suburban drove up and stopped in the intersection.

Inside the car, police say, was the girlfriend's father, police officer Shannon James Kepler, 54.

Lake approached the vehicle, the report states, at which time Kepler opened fire, striking Lake.

It also indicates Kepler fired at his daughter as she ran away.

Investigators managed to reach Kepler's wife on her cell phone, and she told them she was with her husband and "knew what (police) were calling about."

Kepler later showed up with an attorney, and later his wife, Gina Kepler, 48, also came in, but apparently in the meantime she and/or the daughter had hidden the vehicle and gun used in the murder.

Detecitves arrested Shannon Kepler for first-degree murder and shooting with intent to kill, and Gina Kepler for accessory to murder after the fact.

Both Keplers are Tulsa police officers.

Detectives continue to search for the black Chevrolet Suburban and the weapon they believe Kepler used in the shooting.

It's unknown if Kepler's service weapon was used in the killing.

Police have not returned calls requesting more information.

The fellow shot at his daughter as the latter ran away, and later the daughter helped her mom hide the vehicle and gun? This whole thing is cracked from the get-go.

Oh, crap! What did the Tulsa Police do now?!? Oh, it wasn't the Tulsa PD violating the rights of citizens or being corrupt? It was individuals, who happen to be Tulsa Police officers who also weren't acting under the auspices of authority, committing felonies?!? Thread title is disingenuous.

How can we expect the public, media, or politicians to not lump every law-abiding gun owner in with those that commit mass-shootings when some use the same tactics? We call for the recognition of personal responsibility when something like the Sandy Hook or Virginia Tech shootings takes place but are awfully quick to attribute, or insinuate that, the actions of a few officers, not acting in official capacity in this case, to the agency which they are employed. You want to lambast the Moore PD for the actions of their officers, who were working security in a quasi-official status, at the Warren Theatre in Moore? Fine. Union City PD for their cops for roughing up and threatening a journalist for filming Street Outlaws set on closed state highway? Cool. But how does the TPD get the blame for a dad rolling up and killing his daughter's BF and trying to kill his daughter and then him and his wife hiding evidence?

Or maybe I am off base...

I've only been in Oklahoma for two weeks now, but from what I've read it sounds like Tulsa PD and Albuquerque PD would be fantastic bedfellows. For themselves, at least. God help anyone who would be stuck in that municipality.
