IMO..... if the dirt track is open to the public, any sort of awards are involved, its maintained, events are regularly scheduled, etc etc, it would be a unlawful carry.

At the end of the night the drivers will line up at the PAY window to pick up their winnings. At the end of the year they all will get a 1099 from the racetrack. Sounds like financial return to me. So yes, it is a professional sporting event.

From Dalesp's definition, I think it can safely be called a professional event. The real question, which dave hits on, is whether or not it is a sporting event. Dictionary def for sporting is something connected to an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. However, a dictionary def is not necessarily a legal def, and the .gov does have a history of not defining this term the same way you or I would. Thus I think your best be would be to seek either a DA opinion or the advice of an attorney we really can't know the answer to a question that has not been tested.

Ya know, thats always been brought up about drivers being athaletes;

.ever controlled an 800 hp, 2,000lb car...full throttle ...Turning left( or right depending on how you drive) for about 20 minutes or so (thinking Dirt track here)

Seems strange to me that a stock car race that's privately held propert can't allow firearms.

Pro football usually takes place in a facility that's owned by a city, as do other pro sports.

You may be asking the wrong question. Does the event happen at an "arena"? If that track isn't an arena, it shouldn't matter if they're professionals or not.
