USS Liberty incedent (Israel "mistakingly" pummels US flagged ship)

I would like to hear from the people who were alive, and adults when this happened.

Everyones opinion is welcome.

Who do you believe? Either the survivors of the USS Liberty?? OR US officials who said it was a case of mistaken identity.

I am not biased either way (lol) so I am looking at this as objectivly as possible.

Yes, and they all would swear "on their Mothers graves" it was 100% intentional.

It was during the 6 day war. 1967 Arab-Israeli War

I have two sources:

1. My father: at the time of the incident was a Lt. Col in the AF serving as an intellgence analyst. Many years later we were discussing it and he told me that it was generally accepted in the intelligence community that the attack was deliberate. The why of it he wouldn't speak about.

2. I served in the Navy. When it was discussed at all the common wisdom was that the attack was deliberate.

Neither source is definitive. I personally believe that the attack was deliberate based on something else my Dad told me which was that both the Soviets and the US were telling their respective allies to knock it off and do it right then or suffer the consequences. The Israelis weren't ready to call it quits and attacked the Liberty to send us a message. Pie in the sky speculation is all that is.

I may be confusing another incident but didn't some of the pilots come forward and say they questioned the order to attack a us ship and were told if not they would be court marshaled and put to death? And maybe a us carrier that was ordered to stand down by the president? Maybe a quote from that president about wanting that ship on the bottom of the ocean? If its the same incident... It was totally accidental.

This is one of the big reasons why I don't understand why "conservatives" are so pro-Israel. Do a little reading up on this incident--it will make you sick. Israel is widely considered our biggest spying threat, as well.
