I was an adult at the time and followed this event very closely. I have never had any question in my mind but that the Israeli knew the Liberty was USS. Their aircraft circled the Liberty for quite some time before the first attack began. It would have been impossible for them to have failed to see an obvious U.S. flag. I don't profess to know their motivations.

My "conspiracy theories" at the time included the obvious of drawing the U.S. into the conflict, and the less obvious idea that the U.S. (military) planned the whole thing to get themselves drawn into the conflict. All-in-all, there were just too many missed messages, crossed-signals and poor calls for it to have been anything other than a put-up job.

My rage at the time, however, was centered on the U.S. Navy for it's abject failure to provide any assistance to the Liberty. They were in position to have placed fighters in orbit over the Liberty in a matter of minutes. It still pisses me off when I think about it. Thanks, reddog!

Could yall TRY to leave religion and race out of this?

RD, unfortunately some people can't. People like OKC03Cobra have a religious worldview that they filter all information through. He BELIEVES AND KNOWS that he's living in the Bilblical "end times" and he views everything through this "end times" filter. Perhaps even to the point of making the "prophecy" self fulfilling.

THIS is why "End Times Christians" scare the $#it out of agnostics, athiests and generally most other rational people.

Good point. We conspiracy theorists, on the other hand, are like, WAY rational.
