I’ve used vga to hdmi converters as well as dvi to hdmi and hdmi to vga adapter cables. You need a powered converter to go from VGA to hdmi but just a conversion cable to go from dvi to hdmi or hdmi to vga. If it’s just a cable or adapter, it’s for converting the hdmi digital to analog hdmi.

I would recommend using the dvi and getting a converter cable. <$10 on Amazon. After that, get a cheap video card that supports hdmi natively. However, depending upon the computer you have and operating system, there are possible compatibility issues… so that’s less desirable…. So using dvi with a cable is a better choice.
