Hey all you young Bucks out there, if you are in College right now and thinking about quitting. DON'T do it! Take a short break if you absolutely need to, but keep at it, even if it is only part time. Don't do what I did and take 25 years to go back.:teach:

Not that I regret the way I did things, but you know the whole 20/20 thing, it was much easier when I started on this journey the first time.

I couldn't agree more. My break from school was only about 5 years and that was far too long. I'm of the mind that anything longer than a single semester off is a mistake.

Actually the mindset these days is to go after Certificates of completion, that have to do with the job you are looking for.

College seems to be a money pit that usually doesnt give you the experience(certificate) that you need these days, Certifications.....Google the mindset of what employers are looking for....Certificates in certain fields.
Education is a good thing , contempory College just doesnt give you that edge!

Much of it just depends on your plan for future employment. For mine, I have to by law, have at least a masters degree in a specific field. For my wife she was able to to to a Tech branch and get a certificate to take her nursing exam. Now for job advancement she must obtain a degree. For my Daughter, it is either or. She is a computer animator, and has already worked on national ad campaigns.

I am sure that I have set off every .gov watch list alert in the last two days.:Heya: Have had to look up the life cycles of several nasty diseases like Ebola, Lassa Fever, Marburg Virus, mad cow disease, Sars, West Nile Virus just to name a few. That combined with my trips to here, and other sites of similar taste will probably get me a visit some time.:nono2:

I had to do the one night a week thing for quite some time to finish mine up because my career & the rest of life kept me pretty occupied.

And it was definitely a good investment for me, with my organization you don't move beyond Supervisor without a bachelors. It's a corporate thing, application doesn't even get passed along if you don't meet the educational requirements just goes to the HR rep and dies, they'll send you a letter that says Sorry you weren't selected because you don't meet the minimum requirements for the position.

The secret is to find a rhythm and focus on one week at a time: take care of that weeks reading and assignments, then rinse and repeat. Remember its a marathon, not a sprint.

I'm glad I went ahead and finished my masters right after undergrad, I know I wouldn't have gone back if I took a break. I was doing the half-time school/full time work thing until I found out my son was on his way, then I had to kick it into high gear to finish before he arrived. That was an interesting year...
