How long after secession does it take for Mexico and/or Mexicans try to reclaim Tejas back into their United States? Does the then Texas-free intervene?

I'd expect Texas to at least consider NATO membership and if accepted, invoke Article 5. Failing that, I'd halfway consider the idea that the states that seceded might actually band together in some sort of...dare I say it..Confederation?
