Ouray, Colorado. it's the most beautiful place on the face of the planet. Deer walking through town, plenty of trails, Jeep rentals, etc. Bridal veil falls is not to be missed. We stayed at a KOA in a tent, and woke up to find a couple does eating acorns about 10 feet away. I'll post some pics in a bit

Go to Durango and ride the train to Silverton. Then go to Chama, New Mexico and ride the train to Antonita, Co. Lots of beautiful scenery in those areas and if you have a pickup or jeep there are all kinds mountain trails to take. One of our favorite areas.

I too would recomend either of these two places. Wife and I have been taking her vette out into these areas the past 3 years for our anniversary. Last year we went out through NM up into CO west across Utah over to Knaab then south to Flagstaff and back home on I 40. All in 3 days. Great trip and beautiful scenerey out in Utah. Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park were amazing with the top down on the vette.

Here, but occasionally There.
If you decide on southern Colorado, such as Pagosa Springs or Durango, the fastest route would be west on I-40 and then up through Santa Fe to Pagosa Springs. Once you get off of I-40 and head north towards Colorado, the scenery improves a lot. West of Durango is the Mesa Verde National Park with all the Anasazi ruins. That alone could be a long day of looking at history.

As mentioned, Ouray is good as well as Highway 145 north of Cortez up to Telluride and then to Montrose and then back east towards Gunnison. Then back south through South Fork. A lot of that drive is in the San Juan mountains, which are beautiful.
