If you're gonna be in the southern part, might check out Cloudcroft. It's a mountainess oasis in the middle of the flatness.
So I've just spent the last couple of hours going through and making notes on this thread. I have a 2 page Word document to give to my wife to have her look through all of the recommendations and see what we can fit in. We really only have about a week, so that is going to limit us, and taking the dog will complicate things a bit, too.
But we'll figure it out. I appreciate all the tips and tidbits, I think it's going to be a great trip!
<edit> And for all you MFers who recommended Michael's Kitchen in Taos, I'm gonna be cussing you for the next 6 weeks! I spent half an hour reading reviews and looking at pictures, and now I'm so hungry I could eat my keyboard if they poured that red and green sauce over it!
I have a friend that purchased a property in the Red River area a few years ago that he rents when not using it. I can inquire about availability or pm his info to you.I looked at a couple of places, but I'm going to have to do a lot more research and find the best one to use. Open for idea for a specific company or site if ya'll have 'em - it's hard to judge from a website which are good, they all say they're the best! lol

Goose lake is beautiful. We have Jeeped to it many times. We are hiking it this year. If you like to hike, Middle Fork Lake is my favorite hike in that area. The whole hike is beautiful and you are usually at the top by yourself.
Checked on the friend's house near Red River. https://www.reservationsunlimited.com/units/520 manages the guest stays and cleanup for him. Probably not what you're looking for. Sleeps 12 and is already booked for most of June. There may be other properties available through that website though. Hope you have a great trip. We're considering a trip to NM in late July, but I'm really wanting to go to Utah. That might be interesting to look into. I'm not sure if it would fit our needs, but I'd be willing to look. We checked into VRBO and AirBnB and such and the GD'd FEES they charge these days ends up pricing most of them out of my range.
I actually just booked a hotel in ABQ for 2 nights and Santa Fe for 6 nights, just to have a place set - we can cancel or alter any time, but we've spent all day looking at this stuff and I'm kinda crosseyed.
