The old Lincon cracker boxes were pretty good machines for an AC welder. They had copper coils making the duty cycle much longer than the current crop with aluminum coils. The duty cycle is about half of the old models.
Been a lot of farm machinery fixed with the old red box

Well small update.
I've had a small Lincoln welder generator for years but it really doesn't like my 7018 rods and thickwall pipe at all.
A member here suggested this little Tooliom invertor/welder and I am shocked at how well it works.
I can get my lincoln to weld the pipe with e6011 rod but it just will not weld the 7018.
The pictured pipe weld is e6011 with the lincoln @125amps.
Maybe my ground needs to be closer to my weld area?? That might help,? IDK? Maybe 15' is too far?

I still have a lot to learn!

I'm no welder. I can generally make small repairs that work, but they might not be the prettiest. I really enjoy welding, though, and I've taken a few classes to help up my game a little.

I have one of the Vulcan OmniPro 220 multi-process welders. It's stick, mig and tig capable. It's also able to run off 110 or 220. It's probably way more welder than I need but it certainly works.

7018 is best run uphill to keep the slag behind you and to get we’d metal build up if you run it downhill it’s pretty tough and not a strong weld
Listen to this advice. ^^^ He knows of what he speaks.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t 7018 best for DC welding machines vs AC?
6011 is a great all purpose welding rod.
6018 for AC welders?
It’s been awhile since using an AC welder.
