What about instances where guys are trapping and/or shooting hogs with chewed up ears? I've heard this from more than one person across the state, from the sw part of OK and the north central part.
That’s from dogs chewing on the ears and not being caught by the hunters OR being let go by the hunters because they weren’t big enough to sell. I know for a fact that alot of east TX hogs dog hunters let many/most of the non-marketable pigs go after being caught.
^^^THIS is my biggest problem with hog dog hunters!!! It may not be a “universal” problem, but it’s definitely an east TX problem.

Not using good catch dogs will cause one to escape with their ears chewed up. Sometimes they just break loose from the catch dogs and it cant be helped. And as for the ones with no ears, its popular among people that dont like dog hunters to trap pigs and cut their ears off and knock of their whetters in order to make dog killers out of them.
Excuse me, let me add another reason you left out, it is also because of dog caught hogs being tied and released elsewhere.
Which rarely, if ever, happens.
