After watching a place where I used to work go through a round of layoffs by having security walk into their offices, hand them a cardboard box, say "you have ten minutes to gather your stuff, then escort them off the property, I decided that when it came time to leave, I would give them the same courtesy.

This may have already been said, but Oklahoma is an employee-at-will State. You can quit at any time, or get fired for any reason, unless the reason violates public policy. An exception exists for employment contracts. If McDonalds wants to create an employment contract scenario, it will probably get bit.

This thread reminds me of this post. The point being that labor shortages are nearly always resolved by offering more money. No one came at $14 and hour? Try $20. Heck for $100 an hour I'll come down to rural Texas loaded up on Gatorade and wearing a cowboy boot to work 16 hours a day.

Same thing in the world of aviation when planes are overbooked. The gate agents start offering low compensation to move to a different flight. 200-300 ish. But if no one takes it, they have to increase their offer until they move the needle to a financial compensation package that is worth it to the person. I've know of offers of $2000 to take a two hour delay between TUL--> DFW happening because the airline couldn't find anyone that wanted to take the delay until the proper compensation was offered. (Note that I'd have taken that any day of the week and then hop in my happy car and drive on down to the DFW to make my next flight there if I had to.)

Dang I bet that really set them back on their road to financial peace.
You boys can’t help yourselves can you? 😂
The ones who lost their jobs for simply not correcting their performance probably didn’t fare too well financially. As for me and those that did our jobs, we are doing pretty well on our nice civil service retirements. Kind of wish I’d scammed the VA out of some disability though so I could afford a Rolex or 2. Just one retirement check will have to do it along with the money I have rolling in from helping OU students learn how to pay off their student loans from those 5 year gender studies degrees.

People want to talk bad about current generations, but this stuff is all kinds of the reasons that there's no such thing as company loyalty. The only way to get meaningful raises is to change jobs.
Lots of places provide meaningful raises and promotions for employees that perform well and seek advancement.

Well I once asked a group of employees if someone was holding a gun to their head and making them stay after one said it was like a prison around there. One of my more motivational moments as postmaster when I was at Shawnee. 😂. They didn’t quit but a couple found themselves unemployed when their performance didn’t improve.
Stellar example of excellent leadership abilities! I bet your team was top notch and loyal AF!
