We get to hear what it's like to be downrange of gunfire all the time at our range.
The 50 yard, 100 yard and 300 yard bays share a common 30' tall berm for a backstop.
Separated by a 20' berm for side walls. When on the 100-yard bay, it's always interesting to hear the sonic crack of the bullet coming by in the adjacent bay followed by the boom.

The first time you are shot at and you hear the swoosh-crack of the bullet passing you, it takes a second to realize you were just shot at. After that, you know!

Fortunately I have been shot at a few times. Fortunate because I was shot AT and not shot.

Only hit in the head one time, but that was a glancing blow from a 22 lr. Long story. Dumb kids who didn’t understand trajectory and I was on the receiving end.
