Edit: You could always reclaim the shot before disposing of it. The powder can be spread across your yard.

Save it to turn in with the rest of your stuff when they come to get it.
I've shot old paper shells. Properly stored, there shouldn't be a problem. I have a couple boxes of paper .410 shells in the safe.

I've got a case of 20 year old 12gauge plastic hull with partially corroded brass. nothing i cant clean up, just tarnished some. My plan for it is skeet shooting with a gun I'm not fond of. Pawn shop special or something...
If it looks safe enough, have fun with it. just keep in mind what you're shooting isn't up to par and you might get interesting results. In a pump gun you should be ok with less than stellar shells. no worry about the action cycling.

It would probably shoot better in a really old gun!
