IMHO, the 416 got a lot of attention as the first alternative to the M4/M16 that was actually being used/carried in battle by U.S. Forces. I got to feel 'em up and put a few rounds through one and compared to my rough third hand M4 it was the "new hotness" or "oh look something shiny!".
