it kills me to do so but I think this ban will really hurt 5.45 most of all. 7.62x39 is here to stay...too much support for this cartridge for it to go away but 5.45 on the other hand is basically a niche round and really only in the hands of "AK guys". I have something close to 6k rounds and if/when it does reach that price it would be hard to turn down that pay day.

The worst part about it is 5.45 AKs are going cheap right now and my babies deserve better than this...

someone sold that century built tantal on here for ~$900 not counting ammo and i was salty i missed out.
i don't know, i certainly won't discourage anyone from selling, but i've never seen a firearm that was already rare and subject to import bans have the ammo become more rare and more expensive, and the firearm not do the same. not worded so well, but i don't think they will get cheaper.

what would you offload some of the 7n6 for right now? :) :) ^_^

thats pretty solid logic man. I think people are panic selling 5.45 guns now but you are probably right they will increase in value.
and right now my price is $1 each lol. I have that bulgy folder as well as a super nice tantal on a nodak receiver and I love those guns dearly...so not letting any of it go unless prices get stupid. Also have a bunch of russian bakes and plum mags so i bet i could unload everything i have for close to $10k (if 7n6 reaches that point of course).

yeah imo people weren't buying 5.45 anymore because it was cheap. i mean, that's why i did back when you could score 1080 spammers of 7n6 for less than a hundo shipped and i assume everyone else. but recently? this surge is caused by younger people and/or people previously put off by the gun market and they don't want plastic ar's. to them this price and any future price doesn't seem absurd because they weren't around before, so the "wow, i 'member when it was cheap!" just sounds like old guys playing checkers to them. they just want an ak lol.

seems to me newer gun owners care more about what a gun is or what is does related to another. i dunno, when i was buying ak's were pretty much ak's, didn't really matter where from, their price point was all about the same. i understand import bans from certain countries and companies means certain rifles will increase more than others, but dang if what i call the video gamification of firearms isn't occurring, especially among new buyers. places like the 4chan gun board *shudder* have tons of straight up children who are obsessed with "this gun is better than that gun".

i guess it's not much different than the old "9mm isn't enough" arguments we used to have on here, but dang those flingfests didn't seem to affect the market as much. long story short, i think 5.45 will find a place as a desired cartridge for people who know they can afford it; which won't hurt its value imo.

reddit is unironically worse than 4chan. for fun, just go to old.reddit.com/r/all hit browse by "new" and hit f5 every three seconds for five minutes. now it's 4chan. but worse.

if the banks were all about stopping porn on onlyfans, i have no idea how reddit gets a free pass. at least everyone knows what 4chan is, and the boards are split up.

I don't think we will ever see $1pr 5.45, or if we do that it will last for long, that is just too much money floating around. Someone (maybe American, maybe somewhere else in Europe) will step up and start making 5.45. I'm just waiting for the right panicked AK hoarder with 5 NIB SGLs in his safe to start clearing house. Even if I have to wait a few years for the 5.45 supply to stabilize again there is no way this kills 5.45. PSA has been making 74s for a year now and they constantly sell out. Too many 5.45 rifles, too many interested customers. Money will win out here. It isn't like 5.45 is some boutique caliber and there are only 1,000 5.45 rifles CONUS. There are tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands.

the only other country besides russia using 5.45 is romania...there just isnt much of a demand for that caliber. People are just switching to .223 AKs to fill that void and honestly I dont blame them. I do think this ban will be hard on 5.45 and from this point forward it will always be more costly than 7.62x39 and 5.56.

Its already selling for 60+ CPR on gunbroker right now which to me seem absurd.

There is enough demand for PSA to make a line of 5.45 rifles nearly a decade after the 7n6 ban. I won't argue that there isn't a -huge- demand for 5.45 but economies of scale are a thing. 5.56 is relatively cheap (past 18 months notwithstanding) because the supply and demand are always relatively balanced. 5.56 isn't cheap because of the demand alone, but the supply as well. Once demand is large enough (and for 5.45 I believe it is) the market is a large-scale market and investment can be justified, yadda yadda. Even if 5.45 is only a 1-2 million rounds per year market, that is still a fair amount of money to be made and someone will do it. I don't see it stabilizing at a price that is more than 5.56's price plus 5-10 cpr at most.
