We have a Generac at work that’s really good at failing when it’s needed (fortunately, we have a good generator that runs our server room). When I was researching ZTRs, the overwhelming response was to make sure that you get any engine but a Generac; when my dad bought his ZTR, he went propane because of some tax rebate. I looked at the brochure for the make he bought, and they used Kawasaki engines on all of their models except one—the propane-powered model, which used, you guessed it, a Generac mill.

Turns out they were right about avoiding Generac engines. You have to pull the air cleaner to choke it to get it to start, and after only three years, the engine went kaboom and had to be replaced.

So, yeah, I’m not exactly bullish on Generac.
