Don't forget that it would be HIGHLY beneficial to get some training with it as well. Lot's of great classes out there for pretty reasonable prices. Good luck to you!

a 22mag will get it done as good as a 9 or 40 if you hit the right spot. it all comes down to shot placement.

Short answer...either is fine if you can shoot it well. For me, I carry handguns as home defense tools to use until I can get to my shotgun/rifles.
