Ought to be voluntary for women. If they wanna register for a draft, its a choice.

But then i think we should do away with the whole selective service. No draft, no registration. Strictly voluntary for any citizen, male, female or other.

What I heard reported (no link, this was on TV this AM, sorry) is that combat was voluntary, and that they would have to meet the same PT requirements as men.

Whether that actually pans out or not is anyone's guess at this point.

Like I said there is no draft. There is only a registry for males 18-26.

I didn't realize they were drafting people back during the Clinton Administration ;D

There's really not much reason to have selective service registration, except as preparation for pressing people into service. Or as they say on their website: "The statutory missions of Selective Service are to be prepared to provide trained and untrained personnel to the DoD in the event of a national emergency and to be prepared to implement an Alternative Service Program for registrants classified as conscientious objectors."

So I guess one could always angle to be a CO...

If it ever did come to that I would hope that many would be in non-combat positions and only those who are willing and able placed on the front lines. Or if thats not possible, they can skew the drafting ratio a bit with 65/35 man to woman split.

I wonder how they are gonna do on a FOB for months, no running water, your BDU's are so stiff they will stand by theresevles, 200-300 rounds of 240, a tripod, plus your own combat load. Call it what you want, but I feel there are just some things women aren't meant to do. Are there women out there that can do it, sure, meant to, IMO no.

Since when did serving in the military entail having a "choice" about how you will serve? Of course, enlistees are given the supposed choice as to their duty assignment but for all practical purposes you get sent to do the job the army wants you to do based on its needs, not your own. I spent over a year filling an MOS slot not even closely related to my actual MOS. If they are gonna put females in combat roles as a matter of course then make it mandatory for them and if they cannot hack it then boot them from the service if the intention is to be fair.
