I am blown away but .22 bulk going for anything north of $40 a brick... and even that is super high.

How on earth can there be enough people willing to pay more than that. The stuff is less than $20 retail.

Is it REALLY that hard to find?
Are there REALLY that many people needing it so badly that they are willing to pay so much for it?
Is there something going on with manufacturing that I just don't know about?

When you live in a place like out here, there are only 2 real places to buy any within an hr of you. Scaplers keep hovering the shelves like buzzards around a dead calf. I havent seen any at our walmart in 3 months and I only saw some 50 count boxes once at atwoods since that time. I dont get to go to walmart everyday because I live a ways out of town.

I hear you. That answers the question about it being hard to get still. I've kind of been out of the loop since I haven't been looking for any... are online retailers not able to fill orders within a month or so? It just completely boggles my mind how a product that normally costs less than $20 can go for 10 times that amount when they still make gazillions of them every day.

I'm guessing that the people buying now had never bought any before the ammo-apocalypse and as such really don't know how bad they're getting shafted.
Can't believe that anyone is that hard up for .22lr that they would pay over .20$/rd. My range is .04-.08$/rd depending on the type/brand of ammo. If I can't get it for that, I ain't buying it.

On a completely unrelated topic:
If you type the word "aint" in a post it, spell check will mark it as incorrect...however, if you add the apostrophe so it reads "ain't" everything is OK. Did I miss when ain't became an actual accepted part of proper speech?

Its crazy for sure...CCI is pumping out 4 million rounds of .22 a day, but its no where near enough to make even a dent in the current situation.
