I have had both in the past. Chrome Browning hi power mkiii version. Got rid of it and kept the 1911. I will probably never get rid of it either. The hi power was a time gun but was somewhat lacking in certain areas the other designs excel in (price, capacity for size, reliability, etc.) Would I have another hi power in the future? Probably not.

Agree!!!! I like 'em both.

Have mostly Colts, but still have one Browning (serial number is later than yours, but Belgian).

Really like the width of the HiPower slide, but the triggers are better on my Colts.
