Unless you’re in your 80s, you don’t remember a time without them, you just remember a time when you didn’t notice them.

We didn't notice them as past DOD/govt uses, they had very little direct effect on lives, which is what I meant by us doing without them, and pretty sure you folk know that. When I was in college our mainframe IBM still loaded with punchcards and mainly was used for school admin and billing, same as outside by that time.

Next thing you know you’ll be telling me you’re old enough to remember when MTV played music videos.

And the History Channel covered history, and A&E covered arts and entertainment. The only MTV of my time was American Bandstand, Soul Train, and later Midnight Special.
