"Ingenious" says Oprah and Friends? Really? With one section titled "Old Dead White Guy"? Teaching kids vocabulary by referencing gansta rap songs. I give up.

They even think of dragging this garbage into my kids school and there's going to be one pissed off father in the administration building, and I won't allow that BS in my house. The dumbing down of America continues.....

Are you stupid dude? The kids test scores shot up with this program, are you going to bash on this just because your one of the ill tolerant rednecks here in oklahoma and texas and you dont like rap and hip hop? Shut the hell up and lets encourage something that is improving our academic scores here in America.

Yeah, I am. That said, I like hip hop. I DON'T think a lot of their material is appropriate subject matter for children. "Old Dead White Guy" comes to mind ...

I'm sure that everyone here who rails on socialism doesn't send their kids to public school, so it would seem that everyone who could care has already taken steps that mitigate the impact of this problem.

If my kids were still in school they would not be in that school for long. I moved more than once to get my kids into a pubic school that was more appropriate for what I expected from them -- both the teachers and my children.

Only reason they were not in private school was because I could not afford it.

ETA: The voucher system is looking pretty good right now. Then parents could actually send their children to a school whose teaching style matches their philosophies.

I guess I am. My test scores didn't require me to mash out junque in a moronic flow of a false language. Nor did they require me to produce anything entitled "Old Dead White Guy".

Along with that, my school was somewhat stupid to start with, teaching Missouri hillbilly students English with every teacher being a Texan who could barely talk normal. We also ran on an 11.0 scale. . .

To address the whole issue as well, I figure any response that requires someone to bash the poster they are responding to by calling them stupid rednecks, and telling them to shut the hell up tells me that their school turned out a really good tolerant person anyway.

I may be wrong, since I don't live there, but I'm pretty sure Europe doesn't have flocabulary being taught, and while they are a collective group of different languages, their version of the FBI(or whoever it was) isn't required to categorize ebonics as a stand alone language.

Then again, I'm probably just a jive-azz honkie cracka anyway.

Can't tell whether that was sarcasm or not but just in case it wasn't how about teaching the ghetto children proper english. Not only will they fit into society as a whole with less friction it might even help break 'em out of the failed culture of which they are a part.

No doubt. I spent more time at middle and high school when I had teenagers than I did when I was actually a teenager myself.
