Does anyone else on the board not like 1911's?

I can understand someone not liking the feel of the grip on a 1911 (not just talking about the "grips" talking about angle, height, etc), but I guess I am one of those people who rarely finds a gun that I dont like the feel of. I carry Glocks, but I LOVE 1911s. There is something spiritual about a 1911. Its more than a gun, its an ethos.

+1. My carry gun is a Glock, but I love to shoot my Wilson. My wife doesn't like to shoot my Glocks, but she will shoot her MK III Hunter and loves to shoot her Wilson.

Okay, tell you what... I will offer up my personal pistol against anybody's glock .45 for an actual side by side comparison. But it's not going to be one of these "let's throw it in a sand box and fire it under water" bull crap. Bring me a glock, I'll clean it, along with my 1911 and strip ALL oil and debris from them and reassemble with NO lubrication.

YOU find factory ammo... say WWB and I will build a ransom rest.

So, not only will we run them dry, but we will also take accuracy into account... because I have no doubt that the jagged little hole my 1911 will make will be half the size of the glock... and I can promise you that my 1911 will go at least 1000 rounds with 0 malfunctions.... so you better start taking collections for WWB.

Well, I LOVE my highly-gunsmithed 1911's, and they are very, very reliable and accurate, BUT I don't know if they have much over on my Glock 17 gen 4 with a tight-fitting Bar-Sto drop-in barrel. It is a tack-driver too.

I had NO idea the military kept gunsmiths out in the field during WWII. :D

Please...WW@ card,I have yet to find a WW2 Vet that actually carried one much less shot it.I've talked to many including my father, uncles, father in law and they represent Army and Air Force. They all carried either M1 Garands or Carbines. My uncle carried a 38 S&W,he was a B-17 pilot.I'm quite sure though some did carry them but it was a small group and they were a last ditch weapon.GM,have you actually held and shot a WW2 vintage 1911? I have and while it functioned well it was hardly a tack driver like modern ones are.It felt very "loose" compared to my last Kimber.Stan I would love to embarass you with a G-21 any time. You provide the high priced ammo and I will shoot you into the ground. You've got to be kidding,a 1911 against a G21 without cleaning and oiling?? My G19 is 20 years old and until 2 years ago,I had NEVER cleaned it other than wiping the field stripped parts down( I hate cleaning guns!!),running a bore brush down it,and putting the requisite drops of oil.At least 10k rounds later,I did detail strip it and it was a "little" dirty but still functioning perfectly. The bottom line is.....I don't care for 1911's based on 40 years and at least a dozen personally owned ones.......I would never recommend one as a viable carry gun.....and that's the way it is.

I am still curious of Steve's (trolling) answer to this question :D

The BHP works so well,I have to think it must be related to adaption to the 45 acp platform. Not all are turds,if you can swing 2K to 3K for a custom gun they seem to work.Although they are still high maintenence by my staandards.

I like Wilsons too, just too expensive.I could buy 2 Glocks and a high end AR for what one costs. Also,if I did and used it in a defensive situation,I'd have a real problem handing it over to the police and not seeing it for 3 months or more(maybe never!!).

1911s are my favorite pistols to shoot. Do the dislikers have girl hands or something? :boxing3:

Fits my big ole paws great. I kind of had a bad taste for 1911s after my first one yrs and yrs ago. When I got my CCW, I bought a Glock .40 because I didn't want a .45 caliber. Well, after a day at Medlocks, I was looking (and drooling) at the counter, and they had a Kimber 4' with a deal I coulsn't refuse (see avitar). Traded a Karr .40, and got the Kimber, and kept the Glock. For a straight out of the box gun, this thing smokes. I'm in love with this gun. With the right holster and belt, this thing hardly has the weight as it does in your hand. Try one, you might like it.:thumbup3:

I feel the same about Glock. Can't figure out why they are so popular. None of my friends or relatives that have shot a CZ or good quality clone like Glock anymore. I never liked them because the grip angle is all wrong for me and I can't hit for stink with them plus the crappy trigger they come with is pee poor for the price. The 1911's are cool and I have owned a couple but didn't like shooting them cause they feel like I'm holding a 2x4 in my hand. Too expensive to accurize too. CZ's generally shoot well off the bat and there are lots of drop-in and semi-drop-in parts that are inexpensive plus they fit my hands well.

So the short: 1911's are too expensive and while I can shoot them fine accurizing them is very expensive. Glock's are not for me (as they are from the factory they suck - the XD beats them hands down). I prefer CZ and the clones.

Not that anyone cares.

I am living proof that a die hard Glocker can be converted.

Not so long ago, when I first joined OSA, I had a chip on my shoulder like a lot of guys did/do. I thought Glock was the best combat pistol around. In a way, I still kinda believe that...but only for extreme instances, that we really don't wanna get into here, for fear of hi-jacking the thread. :rolleyes2

I recently picked up a Smith & Wesson 1911Sc and I gotta tell ya...no other bottom feeder has ever felt as good in the hand as this.45 does, nor does my Glock wear as comfortably as this .45 does. It all but disappears under a T-shirt and with it's lightweight frame, it actually seems to be a touch lighter than my Glock 22. :ugh2:

I see a few posters here said that they used to carry a 1911 but went with the Glock because of the higher capacity issue. Let me echo the words from the grandaddy of the 1911, Col. Jeff Cooper (RIP).

"If you as an armed civilian need more than 6 or 7 rounds to stop a threat...you've lost already."

No truer words have ever been spoken.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. Having 17 or 18 rounds of super destroyer, uranium tipped hollow points, WILL NOT guarantee you victory in a gunfight. Hell, if you can't stop the threat with a half dozen shots, what makes you think you can with 10 or 12 more?

Most folks think I'm a huge Glock fan because of my screen name. The Glock is still the gun I wear on my hip to work every, single day. Mostly because my boss makes me (department issue). If I had my druthers, I would carry my S&W .45 or a good ol' wheel gun. :thumb:

Click on my signature and read "The Rules" again. Pay close attention to Rule #25. :D

I'm gonna remind everybody that YOU...not the sheriff...not the mayor...not the OSBI...not your wife, kids, brother, sister, momma, daddy or the pope are responsible for the boollits that leave your gun.

YOU are! :tounge2:
