Does anyone else on the board not like 1911's?

Dude, you're kinda hard on the oldies aren't ya?

Love all those mentioned, own several, just don't like the 1911.JMB's design was originally designed for the 9mm,the truly great Browning High Power. It was "adapted" to 45 cal.The BHP is a great gun, reliable and accurate.I can't say the same about the 1911 which lacks reliability out of the box.I think it's the ONE turd in a huge portfolio of great firearms designed by JMB.I will probably own one again someday for a range gun but I will NEVER trust my life to one.

I know its probably blasphemy to most on here and hope I dont get banned for saying it... but I do not enjoy shooting 1911's at all. I have fired everything from Taurus to SA to Kimber and I think they all feel clunky and uncomfortable(even though the last Kimber I handled was the tightest assembled gun I have ever held) and if I am out with a buddy who has one and he asks if I want to shoot it i'll say no because I honestly have no desire to shoot one.

Just kinda curious if anyone else feels the same or similar on the topic?

I have several 1911's in 9mm, 40 S&W and 45 ACP. I doenjoy shooting them in bullseye pistol, USPSA, and IDPA. However for conceaed carry I want a gun without any external safeties and opt for either the S&W 99, S&W M&P/equivalent Glock model, or Kahr PM-9.

They're ok to shoot at a range, but I wouldn't rely on one for self defense unless I had a gunsmith on staff to clean it every night and keep it in functional shape.

G26, S&W36, or something else that works for me!

I know several people who do rely on them. Heck, I did for 5 years before moving to tupaware, but my decision wasnt based on reliability, but more of a capacity issue.

I like 1911s and battle rifles that shoot a 30 caliber bullet. I also change my own oil, do my own car repair, and make repairs around the house. I also know that it doesn't take a gunsmith to clean a 1911 and they are a very reliable design that can be further custom tailored to the shooter. I guess I'll sit over here drinking my Kool-aid while you drink yours.

BS... don't listen to him, he's just trolling.

If you're going to go from that philosophy, then they were both based off of his pocket pistols that were made for .32 caliber... so are the BHP and the 1911's just adaptations of them too?

Not only that, but design on the BHP began in 1914... and wasn't produced until the 30's....

Just curious, do you really think the original design of the 1911 is a strike to his portfolio, or rather that the quality in execution of manufacture is more to blame?
see my above statement...
I had NO idea the military kept gunsmiths out in the field during WWII. :D
exactly...
