Since you are going to start reloading, keep all three, reload the 45 and 40, buy the cheap 9mm ammo. Get a 357sig barrel and reload them as well. This way you are covered for all situations in the shtf scenario.

Buy a 22 for practice.

I got rid of my .40 years ago and decided to stick with 45acp and 9mm.
I haven't looked back. I just don't see a need for the .40 anymore, it's too damn snappy on recoil and buying another caliber bullet is just dumb.

Aside from that, a good hollow point 9mm (gold dot/ Ranger/ etc..) is going to be just as good as any .40 out there in a HD situation.

You didn't include 10mm in the mix. If you did, I'd have to say keep it. You can load it from very mild .40 levels to just short of .41 Magnum potential. I won't own a .40 again, but I don't intend to ever be without a 10mm.
