The rear sight elevation drum is smart. Otherwise it's a generic carbine. Lame. Most ARs are carbines nowadays, and most barrels are carbine length or shorter, and most stocks are for a carbine setup. Carbines are terrible for serious shooting.

So what is "Serious Shooting" and what is a good gun for doing said shooting?

Upping the gas system to a mid-length gas system improves reliability. I think that what he was getting at is when you are expecting high round counts between cleanings SOME carbines fall on their faces pretty often. That the carbine length gas system isn't that great. He is also correct in stating that carbines are what most AR rifles are nowadays, I for one will be getting a mid-length. For no other reason than I'd rather have the peace of mind that my rifle could go 5k rounds than be worried about it. In reality, my rifle will be cleaned probably after every other range session.

A lot of harsh criticism! This thing MSRP's for $275 and I'm sure it will be available for less. Many of the others are near twice that. There are a lot of buyers out there who can't get in this genre' of .22 at those prices. Mossberg may have done all that group a big favor. Some of you guys are getting way too snooty.:)

I think you must have this mixed up with something else. If you click the link on the first page, and click on the specs link, the msrp is $885 or $921 depending if sights are include or not. This would be a smoking deal if it was $275, but at ~$900, there is a lot of respectable competition.
