Mall ninjas will crap themselves and give up their guns and their neighbors. The average guy who believes in the constitution and his rights but doesn't flaunt it will join his neighbor and fight, either barrel to barrel or he'll be handing him mags from the trenches. There are all kinds of ways to fight. Rest assured, it could happen at anytime.

For those citing the eventual victory of the Iraqi insurgency because we left, I'd humbly submit their 'victory' was not due to military resistance, but unsustained political and financial will on behalf of the US govt.

You people are my brothers, and I'm so glad to live here, especially if someone brazenly elects to take away our constitution rights... ...but history is full of dead patriots, defeated nations, and martyrs. I don't think emotion is a good match for discipline, combined warfare, and tactics.

The Warsaw Uprising is a good study for us all. I recommend reading up on that before we are glib in our southern sense of warfare and patriotism.

This is pretty much what happened in our own war for independence. The Vietnam war and many others. Sometimes all the defenders need to do is keep fighting until the aggressors grow weary of the conflict.

....the drudgery and mendacity of every day life.

Mendacity. I've always liked that word. I like it when I see it used in a sentence. Micturate. I like that word too, ever since I heard it spoken in The Big Lebowski. I've not had the chance to use it in a sentence yet. But I have it stored away just waiting to pop out.

Being a military dude, I have to say that the amount of guns in America and their effectiveness would largely depend on the type of occupation. Someone coming in just to destroy us would do so quite easily. An Army willing to level houses and willing to have large amounts of civilian casualties would destroy even a well trained band of citizens.

On the other hand, if it was a war like Iraq where you want to subjecticate (not saying that was the point there) and win hearts and minds, then the civilian could become dangerous if they chose to stand up. Clearing houses and cities is a pain and only grunts can do it in this type of war. You will take massive casualties if Americans are willing to die for their freedom. That then becomes the question though....How many people would stand up and fight versus just waiting to see what happened?

I think the reality is that no one really knows what it would be like to invade America because it hasn't happened. If it makes other countries afraid...great. It makes my life easier. I don't want to fight on my own soil.

He didn't say that but if someone were stupid enough to believe a bunch of dumbasses with small arms could put up anything even resembling a resistance against a modern military, they must not have any grasp of reality.

Someone should have told the Viet Cong. And the Afghanis.
