Controlled hunt antelope and elk.
These are now once in a lifetime hunts.
How many years did you apply before drawing out, or have you draw one or the other, and how many years for each?

I drew out on a speed goat tag last year. Didn't get to go though, because I got absolutely no feedback from the feelers I put out for a place to go. How can the ODW give out tags for a private land only hunt anyway? I had put in for about 4 years before I drew the tag. Figures....win something and can't even use it. I WILL use an elk tag if I ever draw one.....

Out in the woods.
Drew out for antelope hunt in '03 and ended up in Saudi, asked my commander if I could have a weekend off to go on the hunt, he just laughed and made me leave the tent right in the middle of a sand storm. The nerve of some folks!

I grew old waiting to draw a Bull Elk tag. Never got it but didn't really bother me as I hunted Colorado thru those years and took several big Bulls. The only way I would hunt one now is with a camera.

I do have an old story about a draw hunt tho'. In 1972 (I believe) I was living in Colorado and the Wildlife Department had a Bighorn sheep draw. They had only 4 permits in the Tarryall Range (Jack O'Connors old stompin grounds.) My hunting partner and I put in together and we were the first draw selected. It was a once in a lifetime draw (at that time) and was for full curl only. We saw lots of sheep but never got to a full curl. It was a great hunt - backpack to the tip top of the Tarryall Range. I figure my luck ran out after that so I've never been bothered about not drawing that Okla Bull Tag.

Your the 2nd person I know of that has done and said that. First with antelope, your drawing a tag not a hunt. Second my buddy drew a speed goat tag a few years ago and they told him it was fine to hunt on public. Him and another guy both kill out on public, said they had the whole place to themselves.

I've been putting in for draw in for about ten year, I've only ever drawn one hunt. Walnut Creek SP the first year they opened it up and it was a late season 5 day bow hunt... It was awesome.
Haven't drawn a elk or antelope yet.
This is the 2nd year I have entered my wife into the drawings and she just pulled the Wichita Bull
Damn the luck!!!

Bwaaaa!!!
I applied for my first hunt in Vietnam when my mom sent the application.
Filled it out and gave it to the first Sargent as our mail was censored. He studied it for a bit, and told me it was denied.

His response was to not worry
About it as u was already
On a contriolled hunt

Several years. Maybe 13 or 14. I have been on 3 or 4 deer hunts and have been successful on all. Haven't drawn on speed goat or elk, but I won't apply for a doe or cow.

I did however go antelope archery hunting the first year it was open. The rifle hunters from the weekend before had em pretty spooky.

12 years running on the Elk draw and no dice.

In that same span, I have drawn Big Mac twice as well as the Big Mac turkey hunt. Have since decided that I want to focus on the higher profile hunts that have good opportunity for larger bucks. So I am good with waiting several years before drawing.
