Reposted from another site. To give some explaination as to why Glocks and M&P's were not considered.

Thank you BCurry1. This makes sense.

??? Don't know what a glock "45" is?

I misspoke. Meant G21 or any other .40. And a .45 is a .45. Not sure how this is confusing.

Ah yes I was off, but not really. It's still a drop in the bucket and it's what THEY want. You'll always have someone come in and say but, but, you could get 50,000 hi-points for that!! :D

Of course it's just a drop. None of which are responsible for the flood yada yada. And when a decision is questionable, you'll have someone question it. In this case, I'm your Huckleberry.

I gotta ask....... why does their choice really bother you so much?

I'm as bothered by this as you are with my questioning of it. Not at all. Just discussing the issue, or opinions in many cases here. This really just started with an inquiry. Not until BCurry stepped up did I get an actual answer. I'm a sucker for debate and...

.40 glocks have issues, one of which is a Kaboom, the other is a reliability problem with Weapon Mounted Lights. The 4th gen should be a fix, but personally I'd stay away if I was arming 12,000 marines. That's just me though.

Understandable

Pretty simple really, start with the part where you misspoke. :D The redundancy made no sense.

And when a decision is questionable, you'll have someone question it.

Right, it's just questionable to those that don't know any better, or haven't thought about why they would order these. Again, proven platform, proven round, while you may want to ignore the caliber, it's obviously a consideration to them. You seem interested in the quantity of sidearms where they seem interested in arming a specialized smaller demographic. I would seem to me that they are taking more steps to prioritize CQB scenario considerations.

It's hard to believe that some are questioning the serviceability and practicality of the 1911. :screwy:

I have serious doubts about the polymer frame of any of the plastic fantastics being serviceable after 40, 50 or more years. Plastic gets brittle with time. We already know that 1911s will be fine 100 years from now.

I guess the special unit is specializing in fighting against horse mounted units - because that's what 45ACP was designed for.

You can beat your chest and scream murder - but 9mm has been around longer and has been proven 10 or 100 fold over 45.

Wait I forgot - 45ACP fired from 1911 magically acquires energy of 45-70 or greater :P

Screw the polymer guns - what's the logic of switching back to 1911 from M9?
