In light of current events, mass shootings, potential gun bans, a "gun run", soon to be political fighting, debt ceiling fight, fiscal cliff, food prices increasing, drought, ect. ect.

Are these signs to bug out? How many signs do ya need? What are your warning signs to watch for?

Lets hear your thoughts.

When the grocery store shelves are bare and no one answers 911. If you want to bug out based on political rhetoric in DC, go right ahead.

^^Agreed, I'd say there would be no need until its to a point you know things cannot recover quickly. As in food off the shelves, no gas, no water & mass civil unrest breaking out in more than one localized spot. I wouldn't jump the gun & just take off from political words alone.

Definitely want to go before food riots, or riots of any kind for that matter. Not ready to jump ship just yet. It would take a lot more than the current events to make me want to leave. They would have to be closer to my doorstep for that to happen.

I mean in Selco's story, he said there was a week of "awe" before it got really bad. I would keep an eye out for that.

Unless you have a secondary retreat i.e. private property setup with supplies, you had better plan on bugging-in. You should have a realistic and clear idea of what bugging out really entails. Yet no matter how much we wish to stay at home, there are times when evacuation is the only choice. These generally include events at a higher level than social unrest or bare shelves at the grocery store. As an aware “prepper” you should already have 30 days minimum food stores in your home. FEMA and NASA told there junior and executive staff in 2011 to have 6 months food preparations on hand for the coming "whatever". The costly and dangerous exercise of bugging-out should be reserved for nuclear, chemical or biological events as well as any impending disasters that are likely to destroy your home. Other worthy considerations are gangs overtaking your neighborhood, soldiers in your streets, law enforcement making random entry to nearby homes, out breaks of uncontrollable fires etc. The idea of bugging-out must be well thought out, especially with children. If you head out somewhere that you don't normally belong, then you will likely become an unwelcome guest when you get there. Remember all the "Trespassers will be shot" signs of yester year? And don't be fooled into thinking that all the public hunting land and camp grounds won't already be cover by suspicious and weary locals. So give this idea plenty of thought and consideration.

I guess I take having a remote setup for granted. Bugging out seems like the logical thing, but if I didn't have a secondary remote location, this would be a very tough choice like Okieprepper has stated. Bugging in, for me, would require coming together with my neighbors. Being solo just doesn't work. I feel a group would be necessary. More mouths to feed, yes, but numbers go a long way. Now, I'm just ranting.
