Mr. Sisson, let me be the first to welcome you to OSA. It sounds like this was a learning experience for you. I'm glad you are in a position to now be able to share that knowledge with the guys here who open carry (not me! I'm not necessarily against it, it's just not for me.)

Again, welcome! :)

...I contacted the OSBI to ask whether they consider it illegal to carry in a polling place (their answer was that as long as it wasn't in an otherwise-prohibited place such as a school or the election board's building, they didn't think it would be illegal).

This is a curious statement. In what form did this conversation with OSBI take place; email, phone, official letter?

Glad you admit your pride and poor judgement were the cause here. That's a good way to put it behind you and for others to learn from it.

I called and asked the SDA licensing unit, then they called back a couple of days later with their answer. Not sure whether it could be considered an official statement from them or not.

Mr. Sisson it seems that I owe you an apology. I'm the one who implied you were "rubbing it in their face". I tend to give a bit more credibility to the local news stations compared to the nationals, and it appears that I fell for their line of crap. Lesson learned and for that I offer my sincere apology. And I welcome you to OSA too, I hope you stick around.

Ethan,

Can you clarify for us how it was revealed that you were armed when you returned to the polling station the second time? Did you take your jacket off indoors or did someone see you take it off outside?

Thanks for having the stones own up to your actions.

No worries. Don't feel bad. You weren't the only one and I'm sure I've misjudged people in the past based on news reports that didn't quite get the whole story. Thanks for the welcome.

I had taken my jacket off in my voting booth while I was marking my ballot. After I finished, I put my ballot in the ballot box on my way out, and thanked one of the "blue hairs" (I use the term endearingly :)) who was near the door as I left. I was happy to have voted and been done with the whole thing since I was about three hours late for work at that point. I guess it was naivety, but I was surprised the next week when my wife called me at work to tell me a detective had just come to the door.
