and preaching to them involves making laws that denies them their rights?

I'll pause once more to answer this. Homosexual "marriage" is not a right. Rights come from God, and homosexual marriage does not come from God, so it can't be a "right". But even heterosexual marriage is not a "right".

The state does not create rights, it merely recognizes and preserves them (or not, in the case of tyrranical governments).

okay if marriage is just a privilege and only a certain group of people can have that privilege, how does that not create a group of 2nd class citizens. It's the equivalent of saying that black(or any minority) people can't have driver's licenses

Anyone arguing how the government should define marriage is just arguing in favor if big government. Government benefits should be linked to households and not to who is making a commitment to live with who for the rest of their lives (or until they annoy each other too much) or on who is having sex with who.

I'm very surprised this thread has gone off the deep end. I was expecting it to be locked up after Strom Thurmond made his final post a few pages back. Captain Christianity has taken over.

Danny Tanner pointed out earlier that there is a difference between marriage and Holy Matrimony. Holy Matrimony is a contract with God, marriage is a contract with the state. It never occurred to me before, but I think that's a crucial distinction.

The folks down at the First ******* Church might have to go through several marriages before they find their one and only and seal the deal with Holy Matrimony.
