My granddaughter worked at a downtown clothing store in Clinton after school.

They knew when they hired her she was in high school. They said it would be no problem working around her school.

Today they told her it was her last day.

They wanted to hire someone who could work all afternoon, (she can't because of school). And the other girl "needed the job more".

Thanks for nothing deleted by request.

I know life ain't fair, but that's bs.

I'm not trying to be the bad guy here or play devil's advocate? What is wrong with a business hiring someone who better suits a position? Granted, it likely could have been handled with more tact and notice... However you doubtfully know anything about her as their employee. I know it is your "precious granddaughter", I managed a grocery store for not quite 10 years, youth is very hit and miss. Sorry to hear she was let go, I hope her next work experience fares better.

+1... I've had to watch this exact scenario go on and on through several pud jobs with my little bro. It does suck, and you may have to coddle them a little in their youth, but business is business. Hope retrospect can later provide a positive outlook from this experience.

They should have given her two weeks severance pay. It's almost criminal not to do so. She could use those two weeks to secure another crappy minimum wage job.

She will learn something from it. Even if she just learns that Grandpa loves her a lot(I am sure she knows).

The job situation is really hard for high school students.
