So I'm at orientation with a new company this week. When the subject of guns came up, I asked if he knew of the law passed in the past few years allowing guns on property set aside for vehicles. He did and even knew the history and lawsuits involved. But he went on to tell me that since the parking lot is within a fence that surrounds the property, the law did not apply. The gate never closes and there is no other parking. I've found nothing that makes this kind of exception, is there one or a ruling I don't know about?

I asked him if he could find out who and why he was told this so we could both learn from this, and he said he will. He seems like a good guy, and I think he'll look into it too.

Title 21, section 1290.22, paragraph B;
"No person, property owner, tenant, employer, place of worship or business entity shall be permitted to establish any policy or rule that has the effect of prohibiting any person, except a convicted felon, from transporting and storing firearms in a locked vehicle on any property set aside for any vehicle."

Sounds pretty clear to me; this should be interesting.

The only thing HR is going to check on is how to get rid of the new employee challenging their parking lot gun policy.

With Oklahoma being an "at will employee" State, I'm sure they would find 20 other things to come up with.

Probably. The proximity of them discovering you are in violation of their policy that is in violation of state law and the date of your firing would come into play but would be a tough fight. Either way, it is staying in my car at a minimum.
